Please don't host with GoDaddy. I don't care what their price is or what they offer, it's just not worth the headaches.

Recently, I was called in to help a friend set up a GoDaddy hosting account with a Yahoo! domain. From some reason, the domain wasn't resolving. I looked it over and everything she did appeared to be right. Then I threw the kitchen sink at it—and something worked… for a day. I never figured it out, but I do know that after we moved the hosting to my (gs) account on Media Temple, everything was working within 12 hours.

Tonight, I attempted to add an FTP account to a GoDaddy hosting account. I didn't think this would be a difficult process—I was wrong. For some reason, GoDaddy has to verify the uniqueness of the requested FTP username across all hosting accounts within their system and for some reason this process can take up to 30 minutes. Oh yeah, and all of this without any type of user feedback.

So, it's been just about an hour now and my FTP account has yet to appear; I guess the requested username wasn't unique? Or maybe SlowDaddy is still working on the request. Who knows, because there's no effing user feedback!

Please don't host with GoDaddy. Or don't ask me to help you with your site, because after tonight, I won't do it. From now on, it's NoDaddy.

09 August 2008 update—So it seems the "Manage FTP Users" page wasn't working last night. It was really odd, because I could "add" a new FTP user, the number of total FTP users in the system would increment and I'd receive a "success" message, but the new user would never show. Today the user was added immediately with a helpful status note ("pending setup").
